Here is a list of key roles that we nominate people for at our AGM.
These leading elders have a variety of roles, and 1 Timothy 3 is a good guide for the kind of character that is suitable.
We expect from them large conviction about the theology of St John’s and our wider Diocese, as it is found in our foundational document - the Book of Common Prayer.
Competency of skill and common wisdom assist in these roles, and accompany this character and these convictions.
WARDEN
The three wardens (two elected, one appointed) are legally and managerially responsible for finances and property. Typically, they divide the task up with one warden liasing with the treasurer over finances, and property roles handled by the other two.
2020 wardens were Sue Bazzana (moved to Wagga), Jeff Morton and Ross Pickering.
PARISH COUNCILLOR
Parish Councillors liase with the wardens on the above matters, and with the minister on ministry matters. You may nominate either 3, 6, or 9 councillors.
2020 councillors were Bill Goodin, Judy Linton, Ken Leard and Anthony Conyngham.
SYNOD REPRESENTATIVES – NEXT AGM, NOT THIS ONE
Two representatives are sent to the annual Synod – our Diocesan ‘parliament’ – where ordinances and motions relevant to our Diocese and its churches are debated.
2020-2021 synod reps are Jim Linton and Aidan Williams.
PARISH NOMINATORS
Five persons are elected to form a selection panel for a new minister, which is activated on the event of the rector resigning or being dismissed.
2020 nominators were Evelyn Defina; Jordan Gilbert; Garth Hasler; Andrew Moore; Anne Williams
This year it may be helpful to consider that Parish Councillors will need to play a helpful role as we seek to advance a broad-based growth in mature stewardship across our congregations as we hope to see our resources match our vision.
Nominees with a keen interest in this are strongly encouraged to stand. It can also be desirable to have members from varied congregations. A nomination page follows.
